World Diabetes Day: Awareness Starts Now

Last month, a friend of mine complained about feeling tired all the time. She blamed it on work stress, late nights, skipped meals, and too much coffee.
But when she finally went for a checkup, her doctor gave her news she never expected: she was prediabetic.

That moment changed how she viewed her health and it’s a wake-up call for all of us.

Every year, millions of people live with diabetes without realizing it. That’s why awareness shouldn’t begin on World Diabetes Day (November 14) it starts now.

Diabetes often develops silently. By the time symptoms appear, blood sugar levels may already be dangerously high.
Recognizing the early signs of diabetes and taking proactive steps can prevent serious complications.

• Frequent thirst or urination

• Constant fatigue

• Unexplained weight changes

• Slow-healing wounds

• Blurred vision

If any of these sound familiar, don’t ignore them and make sure to schedule a blood sugar test. Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

You don’t need to overhaul your entire lifestyle to make a difference.
Start small, stay consistent:

1. Eat balanced meals: include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

2. Move daily: even 30 minutes of walking supports healthy blood sugar levels.

3. Manage stress: mindfulness, prayer, or journaling can help.

4. Sleep well: rest helps regulate hormones that control blood sugar.

5. Check up regularly: prevention is always easier than treatment.
